About Dance lessons with Marika

About the company

Dance lessons with Marika is a small business in Gothenburg providing private dance lessons, primarily in waltz, bugg (Swedish swing), and foxtrot, to couples and small groups. The company was founded back in 2007 under the name Nöjesdansakuten to manage the growing number of dance courses I was teaching for the Chalmers Dance Society, where I remained active until 2012. During most of that time, I conducted almost all of the society's full-length dance courses, as well as several short taster sessions and private lessons as time permitted. When I left the society in 2012, I transitioned to providing private lessons exclusively.

In the spring of 2026, I expanded the business to include services in areas such as proofreading and editing, Lagervall's Text Service (opens in a new tab), and in connection with this, I gathered all activities under the same domain and renamed the dance school.

The dance school's primary activity is providing private dance lessons to couples or smaller groups. The most frequent request is for waltz lessons ahead of weddings, but lessons in bugg and foxtrot are also popular. During my time with the dance society and the early years of the business, I also taught other dances and I have plenty of teaching material remaining — so if there is something else you are keen to learn, you can always get in touch and ask! First, read more about the dances here (only in Swedish yet, but you can use AI to translate).

About me

The dance school is run by me, Marika Lagervall, on a part-time basis alongside my other business activities. I have danced for many years and was most active between 2001 and 2011, during which I took numerous courses, was active in the Chalmers Dance Society, and participated in competitive training. The Chalmers Dance Society no longer exists, but there is a new dance association at Chalmers with similar activities, Chalmers Social Dance Association. I was also a member of a folk dance group, Göteborgs Nationaldanssällskap, from 1995 to approximately 2011. Previously, I have taken courses at dance schools including Lazar’s, Fysiken, Mölndal’s Dance School, and Sinclairs, and competed for GDSK/Sinclairs and Magic in waltz, quickstep, cha-cha, and bugg. My best result was a second-place finish.

Teaching Experience

I do not have a formal dance teacher qualification, but I have given lessons for many years and built up substantial experience and my own pedagogical approach to help every couple learn and develop based on their own circumstances and wishes.

A brief summary of my teaching experience:

  • Assistant teacher for ballroom and Latin courses at Fysiken, autumn 2001 and spring 2002.
  • Dance instructor at the Gothenburg City Museum in connection with Kulturnatta 2003.
  • A long series of short and long courses at Chalmers for the Chalmers Dance Society 2003–2012, including ten-dance, bugg, and traditional/folk dance. Please contact me if you would like to know more.
  • Several courses in Viennese waltz and one in tango for the Chalmers Marshal's Office, primarily for the Chalmers Spring Ball.
  • Courses for former colleagues at the University of Gothenburg.
  • Various short lessons at parties and for both bachelorette and bachelor parties.
  • Courses in collaboration with DK Woodpecker (later merged into Magic Dance School) during the spring of 2008.
  • Additionally, nearly 300 private lessons during the period 2007–2025.

Please note, however, that I now only occasionally give lessons at parties and in other larger contexts, as it is significantly more demanding than lessons for one or two couples. Read more about the different dances here (only in Swedish yet, but you can use AI to translate).
